New! Now with Auto-Export! - C3 Breeder v1.4 (1/1/00)
(No agents needed... this is a stand-alone application that "talks" directly with C3!)

- Download the complete installation package for Breeder v1.4 (1.9mb) here.
You need to un-zip this file, then run the SETUP.EXE. Get WinZip at(www.winzip.com)

- See a screenshot here.

- If you've already downloaded Breeder or past versions of DrivesMonitor,
you can save alot of time by downloading just the program and text file for Breeder v1.4 (27k) here.

v1.4 changes...
- *** Breeder will only work with English versions of C3 and Windows
- reduced memory requirements
- default installation folder was "DrivesMonitor", changed to "Breeder"

v1.3 changes...
- reduced the number of Norns exported by the Auto-Export feature from 1/2 to 1/3
- added a slider to set the maximum number of Norns allowed in your world

v1.2 changes...
- added smell and medicinal groups of chemicals to tabs 6 and 7
- optimized code for faster screen updates
- added Auto-Export
- added a textbox that reports the max_norns setting when Auto-Export is selected

- You can view the included text file that describes Breeder's features here.

Features...

The "Auto-Export" feature let's you breed with no interaction for
those really long breeding runs. When the population reaches the
Max Norns setting, one third of the worst scoring Norns are exported,
freeing up space for the best scorers to continue breeding. Say after
20 or so generations you have a population that breeds well enuff to
grow on it's own for long periods. You can then select the scoring
groups you want to use, turn on Auto-Export and then just let it go!

Scoring your creatures based on different groups of chemicals, you
can now do specific breeding experiments. You can breed
healthier creatures by tracking their sickness chemicals in tab #4, or
breed creatures that have high mating drives by using the mating
group in tab #3, or low levels of "comfort" chemicals in tab #1...
coldness, hotness, hunger, etc. Of course you could keep all the
groups active and breed using the overall score as well.

First column - a list of each Creature's total score from all active
groups. The score is a running average of the chemical levels. The
lower the number the better for your creature :).

Second column - names of all the Creatures in your world.

Tabs 1-7 - This is where 105 chemicals are listed in ten logical
groups. The progress bars show you the level of each chemical in
the selected creature's bloodstream. The "Group Score" box shows
the current score of that group for the seleted creature. If "Active?"
is checked, that group's score will be added to the Creature's total
score in the first column.

Export Button - will export the currently selected Creature from the
second column.

Pause Button - will pause Breeder, stopping all communication
with Creatures3. Clicking again will resume.

Timer - time between refreshing drive levels, scores and names.
Less time will refresh the lists more often.

Max Norns - this will set the maximum number of Norns allowed
in your world and determine when the Auto-Export feature kicks in.

Auto-Export - When the Norn population reaches the Max Norns
setting, one third of the worst scoring Norns are exported to the
Creatures 3/My Creatures folder. The score in the first column
determines which Norns get exported.

Export Old - will automatically export to Creatures3/My Folder any
creature greater than the adult lifestage.

Jump - will move the Creatures 3 camera to any creature selected in
column #2.

Rename - will rename all the creatures listed in column #2. Each
name is made up of these elements, going from left to right...
genus (n for Norns, g for grendels and e for Ettins), generation #,
gender (m or f), and age (hours and minutes).

I have many plans for Breeder. Eventually I want a breeding tool that will help with many types of
"Survival of the Fittest" experiments :)
Soon I'll be adding Auto-Importing based on scores, plus a Family Tree feature that will let you see
whole family lines and even select from the tree and splice a new creature!
Let me know what breeding tools you would like and I'll see about putting them in an upcoming version! :)

Special THANX! to Zeg, Fuzzie, Kinnison and Miff :)

PoPMoN v1.0
PopMon will let you monitor/report/export your Creatures based on many different
variables... including Age, Species, Lifestage, # of Children, Chemical Concentrations and more!
Brian Hunt (Zeg) and I have collaborated on this C3 project.
He did the C3 agent (Caos) within the game, and I did the Front-End (Visual Basic) that controls it.

Here's what you need...
- Download Zeg's agent here.
- Download the Front-end installation
here.
After you un-zip these files.. be sure to read the readme files for installation instructions.

To make room on your computer screen so you can use the front-end and view the reports while C3 is running, hit Shift/Alt/Enter to switch C3 into windowed mode.

Here's my results from Breeding Run#1... Run#1

11/17/99 - Fresh World This world has no creatures in it and has the following things done to it...
(Unzip this file into your Creatures 3/My Worlds folder. Be sure you check the "Use Folders" option in WinZip so all the folders get restored properly. Get WinZip at
www.winzip.com)

- registering deaths in the Memorial doesn't work with this world
- all power-ups turned on
- Grendel/Ettin eggs safely tucked away in the piranha pool
- medical scanner and anti-bacterial spray in inventory
- contact sensors attached to all the Cheese machines, which will dispense cheese when a Norn passes by
- contact sensors attached to the main hatches into the Forest and Dessert (all my Norns get sick and die there)
- environmental controls all set the same as the Norn terrarium.. to help them get over getting sick there all the time :(
- max creatures bumped up to 30

Here's some helpful shortcuts...
Ctrl-Shift-W (brings up wolfing control screen)
Ctrl-Shift-F (plays the game at fast speed)

Hit Ctrl-Shift-C to bring up the CAOS command line, then type...
setv game "c3_max_norns" X (where X = 10 or more... increases maximum number of Norns allowed)
setv game "c3_max_creatures" X (where X = 4 more than the max_norns setting)
setv game "bioenergy" X (where X = any amount over 1000.. increases ship's bioenergy)
enum 2 24 4 attr 199 next endm (allows the hand to pick up all the power-ups)
hit Ctrl-Shift-C to close the CAOS command line when finished.

More to come!!!!
